WHAT IS A PUBLIC IVY?

The term Public Ivy first appeared as the title of a 1985 book by Richard Moll. The book, Public Ivy's: A Guide to America's Best Public Undergraduate Colleges and Universities, describes eight universities that provide “an Ivy League collegiate experience at a public school price." Public Ivies are considered, according to the Journal of Higher Education, to be capable of "successfully competing with the Ivy League schools in academic rigor...”

Miami is among these original eight public ivies, the only university from Ohio so designated, and is later included in Greene’s Guides “The Public Ivies: America’s Flagship Pubic Universities, which expanded the number of universities distinguished by region.

AN INVESTMENT THAT PAYS OFF

The value of a Miami education goes beyond cost alone...it's a smart investment in your future.

Quality of experience: In the U.S. News & World Report 2012 "America's Best Colleges" list of schools with "an unusually strong commitment to undergraduate teaching," Miami ranks 3rd nationally (just after Dartmouth and Princeton) and 1st nationally among all public universities.

Promising career potential: Miami's stellar national reputation brings twice as many employers to campus with four times as many on-campus interviews than other schools our size. Payscale.com ranks Miami 1st in Ohio and 42nd nationally among public universities for best salary potential after graduation.

Professional school acceptance: Our law school acceptance rate is 97% among Miami seniors, compared to 80% nationally. Our medical school acceptance rate is 64%, compared to 46% nationally.

Timely graduation: Miami has one of the highest graduation rates among the top 20 public universities nationally (excluding military academies). Our students also take the shortest average length of time to earn a degree among Ohio public universities (3.7 years) – that saves you money!
